Representative Matters

  • Successfully upheld through the United States Supreme Court (cert. denied) a national lender client’s defense verdict and an $875,000 attorney’s fee award, following a three-week jury trial concerning a borrower’s wrongful foreclosure action involving commercial and residential properties through which the borrower sought to recover $10 million to $3.3 billion from the lender.
  • Successfully completed numerous partition and receivership sales of commercial, industrial, and residential properties on behalf of LON’s lender, receiver, and private clients.
  • Resolved hundreds of employment-related disputes on behalf of public and privately-held employers through negotiations or trials.

Mia S. Blackler is a partner in Lubin Olson’s Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, and Employment service groups, and she is the chair of the Creditor’s Rights, Receiverships, & Insolvency service group, with an emphasis on commercial, real property, and financial institutions litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts. Ms. Blackler’s litigation experience includes wrongful foreclosure defense, bank operations, interbank disputes, and commercial disputes. She is well versed in enforcing creditors’ rights, including prosecuting collection actions, seeking prejudgment remedies, and receiverships. Ms. Blackler has also handled complex fraud actions and class actions. 

Ms. Blackler maintains an active employment practice, providing risk avoidance and pre-litigation advice and counseling on employment policies and practices compliance issues.  Ms. Blackler also advises employers on the impact of recent laws directly impacting employee-employer relationships. When disputes arise, Ms. Blackler defends employers against wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, and compensation claims brought before the courts and administrative agencies, and she serves as monitoring counsel on matters handled through business insurance.  

Ms. Blackler was the 2018 president of the California Receivers Forum and is a current officer and board member since 2011. Ms. Blackler is a co-chair of the 2024 California Receiver’s Forum Loyola X Symposium. She is a current member and former co-chair of the Financial Institutions Committee of the California Lawyers Association and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the State Bar of California’s Mandatory Fee Arbitration Program. 

Ms. Blackler was selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2021-2024 editions of The Best Lawyers in America© for her work in Mortgage Banking Foreclosure Law.
